January is a looong month and if you’re struggling for inspiration for your weekend gaming marathons, we’re here with our game picks. Each month we’ll be selecting a different theme and rounding up three games, a single-, multi-player, and brand-new title that we think are perfect for delving into this weekend.
This month is all about tower defense games.
Thronefall
Thronefall is a minimalist tower defense game all about building and protecting your own little kingdom. Hone your skills and strategy during the day as carefully build your base by hiring more builders, farming resources, or improving your defenses. At night, you’ll need to do everything you can to protect your kingdom from countless dangers and hordes of enemies. As soon as you see the sun rise, you can breathe a sigh of relief and get back to repairing any damage to further your success the next night.
The gameplay and survival rate of your kingdom in Thronefall all depend on choice. Can you strike the right balance between economy and defense? How will you keep the enemies at bay? Is your priority hiring more archers or building thicker walls? What you decide will have notable impacts on your kingdom and its ability to defend itself.

Kingdom Two Crowns
Team up with a friend or go at it alone in Kingdom Two Crowns, a tower defense game all about building, preserving, and defending your very own kingdom. Set in uncharted medieval lands, embark on a grand adventure as the Monarch to recruit loyal subjects, design your own kingdom, and protect your crown from Greed along with monstrous creatures who threaten to steal your precious treasures.
In addition to cultivating your kingdom, you can venture out into secluded forests and ancient ruins to uncover treasures and seek knowledge to aid you in your quest. However, as night falls, shadows come to life and the deadly Greed will begin their assaults on your kingdom. Design the perfect strategy to defend your lands whether this is rallying the troops, crafting weaponry, or fortifying your walls.

Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap
Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap is an action-packed shooter and tower defense in which you play as an orc-slaying War Mage. Tasked with defending the rift from a grotesque mob of orcs, wield unique weaponry, your abilities, and traps to aid you in your success. Whether you play solo or with the squad, there’s plenty of epic combat to sink your teeth into as you battle it out against hordes of orcs, hideous creatures, and even an Orc General.
All of which you can enjoy to the backdrop of witty orc chatter, over-the-top physics (yes that is an orc flying through the air…), and a rocking soundtrack.
Please note, Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap will be available to play as of January 28th 2025.
