Become a Video Game Tester
During development, companies will hire game testers to assess for any bugs, usability errors, or how the game functions. You can test games on a wide variety of platforms from PC to console and even mobile. Once you’ve tested all the gameplay, you’ll typically also be required to write a report on your findings, highlighting any key issues or bugs you experienced.
Video game testing jobs are usually posted on job websites or freelance sites such as Fiverr. Please note however, you may be required to have a specific level of education or experience in a similar role to be a video game tester.
Selling In-Game Items via Marketplace
Most popular games, especially FPS or battle royales, feature exclusive in-game items. These can range from stylish cosmetics to powerful weaponry that is often only unlockable through loot boxes. Typically, these items are split into different tier levels, ranging from common to very rare.
If you’ve had a sudden streak of luck and have compiled a few rare exclusive items, you can choose to sell these via marketplaces, such as gameflip, to earn yourself a few extra pennies. Steam also has a dedicated Community Market which allows you to buy or sell your in-game items from titles such as Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2.
Take Part in Gaming Tournaments
If you’re big into competitive gaming, you use your skills in battle to make money. Most games with a competitive mode will host gaming tournaments, often with a cash price. You might need to get the squad together to compete, but it’s an easy way to make money and show off your gaming skills.
Paid to Play Game Apps
If you’re a big fan of mobile games, certain platforms allow you to make money by simply playing games, such as Mistplay. Whilst you play, you’ll slowly collect units or achievement badges. These can be redeemed to earn gift cards for Amazon, Google Play, and much more.
What’s more, specific games on Mistplay may also have sweepstake competitions which you can enter to be in with the chance of winning a grand prize.
Live-Streaming
Lastly, you can also earn money through live streaming. Platforms such as Twitch and YouTube have made streaming your gameplay to an audience even easier. Live streaming is a great way to build your own community of fellow players and earn some extra money on the side.
