Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Gameplay
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a singleplayer, action-adventure game, developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks. Set in the year 1937, this game takes place between Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Last Crusade. Playing as the eponymous Indiana Jones, you need to uncover one of history’s greatest mysteries with a mix of archaeological knowledge and rogue-ish charm. If you ever wanted to experience an Indy adventure firsthand, this is your moment.
X Never, Ever Marks the Spot
With cinematic cut scenes, first person action, and a mystery that takes you across the world, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle promises an immersive tale with plenty of exploration and intriguing puzzles. From the halls of Marshall College to the sunken temples of Sukothai, there is an adventure to be had. Just hopefully no snakes.
There are sinister forces working around the globe, trying to find the secret to an ancient power connected to the Great Circle. It’s up to everyone’s favourite legendary archeologist, Indiana Jones, to stop them. This linear, narrative-driven tale will take you through open-area maps filled with a wealth of secrets, puzzles, and, of course, a few booby traps.
Naturally, it would not be an Indiana Jones game without his whip playing a crucial part. Use it to swing into action or in combat to pull your enemies into melee range. This whip is a vital tool for navigating the environment or, you know, reeling in the ladies.

Story
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set between the events of The Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Last Crusade. This amazing adventure takes you hopping around the globe, from the Vatican up to the Himalayas and through the streets of Shanghai.
The game starts at Marshall College, where Indiana Jones is a lecturer, and someone breaks into the main building. Upon investigating, you are attacked by a giant who is there to steal an artefact. After a brief fight, Indy is knocked unconscious. When he awakes, the giant and the artefact are gone. So, Indy sets out to track down whoever has stolen it and stop them from finding the ancient power that it leads to.
The story takes you around the world, hopping from one country to the next. Playing as Indiana Jones, you must uncover clues along the way to take down the ones trying to take the ancient power for themselves.
Gameplay Review
In Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, you will be solving puzzles, employing stealth, and fighting your way around various parts of the globe to uncover the mystery that you are chasing.
Each level offers such rich and deep designs showing care in the pathways and connections between sections, with multiple routes, side missions, and avenues of attack to complete Indy’s goal. Stealth is your greatest ally, you’ll need to creep through quiet hallways, climb scaffolding to avoid sight, or even don a disguise or two to help get to where you need to be.
If you have an eye for puzzles, you’ll be glad to know that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is full of brain teasers – from hidden bookshelf stashes to secret tunnels. There is so much packed into each level that you are constantly diverting from the main quest to go and solve a new mystery or find some extra loot!
Completing the puzzles and side missions unlocks “Adventure points,” which can be used to upgrade Indiana. This includes boosting stamina recovery in combat and reducing enemies’ ability to see Indy, as well as being used to purchase items from any vendors that you might bump into along the way.
The combat is very satisfying and quite funny at times. Even with access to Indiana’s classic revolver, combat is mainly centred around Indy’s fists and whip, should you get caught whilst trying to tiptoe past enemies. You can also scour your environment to find anything that will help dish out some extra hurt, from shovels to flyswatters and everything in between. Nothing is more metal than knocking someone out with a guitar!
Final Thoughts
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a beautifully crafted game. The story is so deep and involved, including all the side missions and extra content. Along with the absolute peak level design, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle makes for an excellent addition to the Indiana Jones franchise. As a massive fan of the original movies, I really do think that it has earned this.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Platforms
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is available to play on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S from December 9th 2024. If you pre-ordered the premium edition, then you can play from up to three days earlier!
It is a singleplayer adventure, so there are no multiplayer modes nor crossplay support.
With so much whip-cracking action and Indy wise-cracks to enjoy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would make great streaming content!
