just oc'd my fx6300 to 4.2MHz and its rock solid stable. On a biostar A960D with a 980 chip in it. does this sound good or will it fry. core temp on load is around 25c and idle around 10/12c. But it seems to be very stable even in stress tests of 1/2 hours. any comments or advice would be great.

What are you using to measure core temp?
25 deg sounds nonsense, id expect 60-70,what cooler are you using.
Run asus realbench stress test to give it a work out to check stability and temps.

open air core p5 case. and room temp is about 25/30 very cold room.

It'll be TPIN 1 you need to look at, AMD CPUs don't have any temp sensors on the chip and relies on the temp sensor on the socket. Sadly software will usually need to estimate the CPU temp with this.

I found open hardware monitor best for fx chips and also your temps are wrong as real temps will not show till 35c+

If you look at the fx overclocking guide on here in the cpu section, i wrote quite a bit about them.

I use this ibt avx, by runningit at high for 20 rounds.

Go from here to the last pages and it will show some things.
