Worth Upgrading from FX 8150 to FX 8350?

Today's AMD Friday deals got me thinking, initially when I saw the FX 9590 with it's massive price cut I was very tempted until I read more into it and it seems even at this price cut it's really not worth it. So I scrapped that idea and looked at the FX 8350, lots of good reviews and people saying using similar voltage to the FX 9590 it can reach 5GHz as well.

I currently run the following:

ASUS Crosshair V Formula
AMD FX 8150 Black Edition with Corsair H80 Watercooling
32GB GeIL Evo Veloce Quad Channel DDR3 2400mhz
GeForce GTX690
Kingston V200+ 120GB SSD
2 x WD 1TB HDDs

I'm waiting on delivery of my 500GB 840 EVO which will be replacing the Kingston.

Mostly used for gaming, Photoshop and 3dsMax.

So my question is as the title says... is the upgrade from my Bulldozer FX 8150 to a Piledriver FX 8350 worth it?

I will also mention that I will be upgrading from my H80 to the OcUK Tech Labs Fathom All in One Custom Cooler 240mm.

If you look at a benchmark where AMD does well (rendering), then you can see it's quite a sizeable jump from a stock 8150 to 8350:

Then you have headroom still for overclocking, 4.5-4.7GHz is a reasonable expectation.

But bear in mind that the cheaper 8320 typically overclocks well too, and aside from the clock, they're identical CPUs.

An 8320 @ 4.5GHz will give noticeable gains in gaming. Someone else who just 'upgraded' from an 8150 to a 6300 today has got better minimum frame rates and a big boost in Sim City, which can use 4+ cores.

Definitely! I had an 8150 and went to an 8350 and noticed a big improvement in performance and temperatures. Seems to overclock better too.

Hi, don't forget AMD have been cherry picking the 8350 for their 9390/9590, so the chance of getting a good clocker is not looking to good.

But maybe members who bought a 8350 recently can say how they overclocked.

Thanks guys.

If this is the case, do you think maybe go for the 9370 then as it's only £30 more?

That depends on how high you want to overclock. You shouldn't have any trouble reaching 4.5GHz. We don't know that they've cherry picked the best CPUs, production may have been improved slightly for the newer 9xxx series (just as Richland overclocks better than Trinity, despite it being essentially the same CPU).
