Great way to add RGB to monochrome fans
by Gordon WishartHave a mix of 120mm and 140mm DRGB Halos frames on both my PC and my son's. They're a great way to add RGB features to fans, without having to replace the fan itself. These screw into existing holes on fan covers, which is straightforward if you can access the fans easily inside the case, otherwise it may be easier to remove the fans, fit the frame, then re-install the fans into the case. One thing to note - these are designed to be daisy-chained with other Halos fans and connected to Phanteks RGB controllers (e.g. a compatible Phanteks RGB controller is integrated into the excellent Phanteks Evolv X case). Halos frames CAN be connected to motherboard 5V RGB headers, but ONLY if you buy the additional Phanteks cable kit. The cable kit costs around £7 - you'll need 1 kit per RGB header, and I have 2x frames connected to each cable - just make sure you get the correct 5V 3-pin DRGB kit (not the 4-pin 12V version). I couldn't find it for sale on OCUK, but it's available elsewhere. It would've been good if these cable kits were included in the Halos fan packaging, but that would've increased the price slightly.
