Boasting sixteen cores and thirty-two threads, this processor utilises SMT (simultaneous multithreading technology) to optimise performance during gaming workloads. Base frequencies for this processor are 4.5GHz but, as the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D is unlocked for overclocking, this can be boosted up to 5.7GHz with the use of Precision Boost 2 or Precision Boost Overdrive.

For memory, AM5 compatible with DDR5 RAM modules, ideally supporting speeds between 5200 and 6000MHz. Additionally, a memory overclocking program has been developed specifically for the AMD Ryzen 7000 Series and DDR5, called AMD EXPO. This will offer optimised, on-click overclocking that can enhance 1080p gaming by 11% and reduce latency by up to 63ns.

This AMD socket uses a land grid array (LGA) rather than a pin grad array (PGA), so there is no cross compatibility with AMD AM4 sockets. Runs at around 50°C idle, 70°C when under load. Very fast in both multi core and single core workloads, still works like a charm in eco mode while only consuming 70-75W of power. Highly recommend this for creators who want to game on the side
I upgraded my sons pc and gave him my i9 13900ks to replace his i7. I don't know what all the drama is about Intel, both chips are fine and I just thought I would give AMD a go to see if I got anything different from the experience. That I certainly did. There is nothing wrong with this CPU. Yes its fast in games, gameplay seems smoother and very responsive. Multi tasking the i9 is the winner there. Not impressed with AMD's software, Ryzen Master sucks and Arenaline seems as bad as it was 2 years ago, when I bought a RX6950XT, (which got sold pretty quickly for Nvidia GPU). All in all Intel is a smoother set up, drivers work well with Nvidia products and Windows. Microsoft don't help either as its obvious they support Intel CPU more than AMD. But after reinstalling Windows 11, spending around 10 hours to find my "AMD sweet spot", its finally coming together. DOCP offered 6400 on my DDR 5 ram, but I've settled on 6000, as it all seems to run better. Glad I have an AIO 360 from the i9, as this CPU runs hotter, by around 10 degrees. Also if you do one thing, enable Memory Context Test in your bios, both of them, as it cuts your boot time down from 2minutes to 30 seconds. Usual excellent service from Overclockers, free delivery arrived 5 days early too.
