Monitors By Panel
Your gaming, creator, or professional setup is not complete without the perfect monitor to match. Whether you choose a high refresh rate gaming monitor or a colour-accurate 4K editing monitor, Overclockers UK has the perfect model for you, no matter your requirements. We offer an extensive range of OLED, IPS, TFT, VA, and TN panel types, with the latest features such as G-Sync or FreeSync and high refresh rate options.
Choosing the Right Panel Type
When choosing a monitor, there are several main types of panels and technology to consider. These are:
Each of these monitor panel types offer their own advantages and disadvantages with some being more suited to different types of gaming such as esports, RPG, and simulators.
TN Monitors
TN, or Twisted Nematic, monitors are the oldest type of LCD panel. However, thanks to their lower prices, they still offer a great option for gamers, creators, and professionals alike. TN panel monitors use TFT liquid crystal technology. One downside of this technology is less colour accuracy in addition to smaller viewing angles than other panel types.TN monitors popularity among esports and competitive gamers is thanks to their outstanding response times and lighting fast refresh rates, allowing for notably reduced screen blurring and tearing.
IPS Monitors
In-Plane Switching panels were designed to improve upon TN by expanding on their limitations. IPS monitors use parallel liquid crystals to provide high-quality colour fidelity. Additionally, as the liquid crystals can shift horizontally, viewing angles are improved over TN panels. Whilst IPS panels offer a considerable improvement over TN, they often cost more and use more power. Thanks to their wider viewing angles, IPS display are perfect for multi-monitor setups such as simulators where the user is not necessarily directly in front of their monitor.
VA Monitors
Offering some of the best features of both TN and IPS panels, Vertical Alignment monitors produce high-quality contrast ratios, alongside great colour accuracy and viewing angles. What's more, VA panels are capable of blocking the light from the monitor backlight when not needed, allowing for the production of deeper blacks. VA monitors offer an attractive feature set but are prone to high response times, making them less ideal for competitive and esports titles. Thanks to their fantastic reproduction of colour and deep blacks, VA gaming monitors are ideal for RPG, and other games with awe-inspiring graphics such as Cyberpunk 2077.
OLED Monitors
Potentially the best visual experience, OLED monitors are available with one of two different display technologies. White Organic Light Emitting Diode (WOLED) and Quantum Dot Organic Light Emitting Diode (QD-OLED) both utilise multiple layers of organic diodes acting as the pixels of the screen. What differentiates them is their colour reproduction technology. WOLED displays harness white light and traditional colour filtering techniques. Meanwhile, QD-OLED displays use innovative semiconductor nanocrystals to convert blue light into red and green as required. Both types deliver incredible results, with brighter images, vibrant colours, and better contrast. Furthermore, they offer high refresh rates, rapid response times, and minimal input latency, making them perfect for gaming. However, thanks to this incredible performance, OLED monitors are often more expensive than other types of displays.
TFT Monitors
Thin Film Transistor displays are produced using a sheet of transistors, each controlled independently as a pixel. Rather than a type of panel, TFT is a technology many monitors use, such as IPS and TN monitors.
LCD Monitors
Liquid-Crystal-Display or LCD is a technology that most panels use to produce an image. A current is transmitted across the panel by utilising transistors to control the light for any pixel on the display. Types of panels which use LCD technology include TN, IPS, VA, and more.
