LED Strip Lighting

CableMod RGB Lighting strip

Take your streaming setup to another level, with some stylish RGB lighting strips. RGB lighting contains a series of light emitting diodes (LEDs) that come in three colours; red, green, and blue. By combining these three colours, you can achieve the full colour spectrum visible to the human eye. The colour of your lighting can be changed at the press of a button, via a compatible app or controller. Numerous models also include Bluetooth or Wi-Fi capabilities. With a set of RGB LED lights, you can set the mood to perfectly match any game you’re playing.

How does an RGB light strip work?

An RGB (red, green, blue) light strip is a type of flexible circuit board with LEDs (light-emitting diodes) mounted on it. RGB light strips are capable of creating an almost infinite range of colours. Each colour is represented by a combination of red, green, and blue values, ranging from white (0, 0, 0) to black (255, 255, 255). The levels of brightness of each colour in a given hue determine the final colour.

Integrated within each RGB strip, you’ll find multiple LEDs spread across the whole length. These LEDs are commonly connected via four wires, with three dedicated to transmitting data and the fourth for carrying power. Utilising these four wires, the necessary lighting information can be sent to the LEDs along the strip for your desired colour display.

You may also come across RGB strips that utilise three wires. Each connector is dedicated to power, ground, or data. This type of RGB can be referred to as aRGB (addressable RGB) or dRGB (digitally addressable RGB). Utilising aRGB or dRGB allows for individual LEDs to receive different inputs, which enables them to produce stunning lighting effects such as rainbow wave, and breathing.

To utilise RGB to its full potential you will require a controller. There are two types of controllers available, single-zone and multi-zone. A single-zone controller is generally adjusted via a remote and adjusts the RGB on every product in a single area at once. Meanwhile, a multi-zone controller allows you to control multiple RGB devices individually, with many featuring smart control via an app.

How long do RGB strips last?

RGB strips last on average 50,000 hours, which equates to 6 years of continuous use.

Where can I put RGB strips in a room?

Thanks to their flexibility, RGB strip lights can be placed almost anywhere some excellent ideas include around a TV screen, monitor, inside your PC, along shelving, and around artwork or mirrors.

What colours can RGB strips output?

RGB strips are able to produce 16.8 million colours by mixing red, green, and blue light. With this, you can achieve colours ranging from bright yellow to deep purples. Some colours are harder to achieve than others, such as whites, browns, and light pinks.
