RAM Speeds
RAM clock speeds are a measurement of how fast your CPU can read and write data to memory. This is usually measured in megahertz (MHz). A RAM kit with a higher clock speed will offer superior performance to a lower clock speed kit. Just note these speeds can be defined by your motherboard and CPU. If you try to pair a 4200MHz RAM kit with a CPU that only supports 3600MHz memory, you will not get the full performance from your memory.
An additional factor to consider is that most memory operates at its JEDEC standard speeds. For example, DDR4 can be rated for 1600MHz. However, many of these RAM kits can operate faster, when a factory tested overclock is activated. To do this, a setting needs to be enabled in your BIOS. This depends on your processor and motherboard manufacturer. The three software options for overclocking your memory are Intel XMP, DOCP, or AMD EXPO. By enabling one of these in your BIOS, you can boost the performance of a JEDEC 1600MHz DDR4 RAM kit to 3200MHz.

How much power does my RAM use?
The amount of power RAM uses is dictated by its generation. For example, DDR4 memory requires 1.2V to operate, meanwhile DDR5 utilises 1.1V which is more efficient.
Is 64GB RAM good for gaming?
A 64GB RAM kit is probably going to be overkill for gaming. This memory configuration is better suited for content creation and programs such as Adobe Premier Pro. These require more resources than a game does.
Should I use a dual-, or quad-channel configuration?
The number of channels you should use depends on what work you plan to do on your computer. A dual-channel configuration is suitable for gaming but may struggle when utilised for heavier workloads, such as video editing. The more complex the task you wish to perform, the larger the number of channels you should aim to use.
