Types of SD Cards

Secure Digital cards, or SD cards, come in a variety of form factors. Each is utilised in a range of applications. There are three main form factors of SD cards, which can come in different capacities, and with varying data transfer speeds. The main form factors you can find are:

• Standard SD Card The standard SD card was first released in August 1999, and was jointly developed by SanDisk, Panasonic, and Toshiba. A standard SD card measures 32mm x 24mm x 2.1 mm (DxWxH). Because of their size, they are generally used with larger electronic devices, such as PCs, laptops, and digital cameras.
• miniSD Card The miniSD card was released in March 2003 and developed by SanDisk as a storage solution for mobile phones. These cards measure 21.5mm x 20mm x 1.4mm (DxWxH). Since their introduction, miniSD cards have been largely supplanted by the microSD card. However, older electronics like phones and MP3 players may still be compatible with them.
• microSD Card The most prevalent type of SD card in use today was first released in July 2005. Developed by SanDisk, the microSD card was introduced to replace the miniSD card as mobile phones increasingly became thinner. A microSD card measures just 15mm x 11mm x 1mm (DxWxH). Aside from phones, microSD cards are now widely used with devices such as drones, gaming consoles, dash cams, and tablets.
