SteelSeries Headsets Explained

Gaming headsets are often described in different ways. It can be helpful to understand a few keywords before choosing your new SteelSeries gaming headset.

Frequency Response: Usually measured in Hertz (Hz) and represented in a range such as 20Hz –20kHz, frequency response is the range of audio frequencies that a headset can reproduce. A wider range means the gaming headset is capable of producing more sounds accurately, including lower bass tones and higher treble tones. This means a headset that has a larger frequency response will provide a better audio experience.

Impedance: Is the resistance of the SteelSeries gaming headset to the audio signal coming from your gaming PC. A headset with a low impedance of 32 ohms will have less resistance and require less power for your devices to drive. A high-impedance headset, for example 300 ohms, will provide more resistance, require more power to drive, and often require an external DAC, amp, or soundcard.

Driver Size: Simply put, this is the actual diameter of the speaker within the SteelSeries gaming headset. Larger drivers usually produce louder and deeper bass sounds, whilst smaller variants may be less powerful but more efficient and lightweight. It is also worth noting that larger drivers typically require more power to operate, meaning they may need an external DAC, amp, or sound card to plug into.
