FreeSync utilises adaptive synchronisation technology that supports a dynamic refresh rate and eliminates screen tearing, visual latency, stuttering, and input lag. A communication issue between the GPU and monitor is at the heart of any lag or tearing problem. FreeSync technology eliminates any choppiness by ensuring that the monitor adapts to the framerate of the output device, instead of vice versa. This also allows for a refresh rate of up to 360Hz and beyond.
Initially developed by AMD, the technology came about as a response to NVIDIA's G-Sync, which uses proprietary NVIDIA hardware to control the refresh rate. FreeSync monitors, however, use software as their control method, keeping costs down.
