The B450 chipset forms the centrepiece of the MSI B450-A Pro motherboard and has been specially developed and optimised for 2000- series (Pinnacle Ridge) Ryzen CPUs. B450 motherboards support all features of 2nd gen Ryzen processors, such as the AMD's new XFR2 overclocking. Additionally, the motherboards support up to 64 GB of RAM with a guaranteed clock frequency of 2.933 Megahertz. Overclocking to higher frequencies is also an option, although the increase will depend on the motherboard.
The MSI B450-A Pro Micro-ATX motherboard offers one PCI-Express 3.0 slot with full x16 connectivity for graphics cards. For expansion cards, the motherboard comes with two PCIe-x1 slots. The four RAM slots support up to 64 GB DDR4-RAM clocked at up to 2.933 MHz. This can be increased via overclocking up to 3.466 MHz.
An M.2 slot with PCIe connectivity is provided since this is an AM4-based motherboard. M.2 SSDs that utilise the advanced NVM-Express protocol (NVMe) and that are connected via four PCI-Express 3.0 lanes are up to eight times as fast as as SATA 6G hard drives and support data transfer rates of up to 32 Gbit/s.
The MSI B450-A Pro has four USB 3.0 Type A connections on the I/O panel. For CPUs that come with integrated graphics such as AMD's Raven Ridge, the board has HDMI-, DVI-D- and a VGA port. The motherboard offers one header for static RGB elements and three 4-pin PWM connections for fans.
