Common Uses for Memory Cards

With their small size and large capacities, memory cards are perfect for use with a wide range of electronic devices. Some of the most common devices that can utilise a memory card are:

• Cameras Probably the most common use for memory cards is in photography and videography. Many different types of cameras are compatible with SD and MicroSD cards, such as digital cameras, action cams like GoPros, and drones equipped with cameras. Memory cards are used with these devices because they are lightweight and easy to transport. What’s more, their large storage capacities are great for capturing high-definition footage.
• Mobile Devices A wide range of Android smartphones and tablets support memory cards for extra storage. In general, this will be a MicroSD card. Working alongside the internal storage of the device, they allow for a larger number of photos, videos, apps, and music to be downloaded to the device.
• Gaming Consoles Many handheld gaming consoles offer the ability to expand their storage with a memory card, such as the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and ROG Ally. The main advantage of this is that you can have space for your entire gaming library without having to uninstall any titles. Additionally, they are used to store your in-game saves, ensuring your progress is kept safe.
• Media Players Although not as prevalent as they used to be, many MP3 and other media players would utilise memory cards for their storage. This allowed for quick transfer of music from your PC to your media player. What’s more, with their high capacities, you’d be able to store large music libraries.
