With the PCEM2-DC , AXAGON offers an internal adapter that simultaneously connects an NVMe M.2 SSD and a SATA M.2 SSD to the PC via a PCI Express slot. This is particularly useful if the mainboard does not have a corresponding M.2 slot or if these are already occupied. The adapter enables the use of single and double-sided M.2 SSDs in x16, x8 and x4 PCIe 3.0 slots. Data from an M.2 NVMe SSD is transferred directly via the PCIe bus, for M.2 SATA SSDs there is a SATA connector that is connected to a corresponding slot.
The PCI Express bus supplies the PCEM2-DCdirectly with power, so no external source is required. Thermal pads and a panel with an active fan help to better dissipate the waste heat generated by the M.2 SSDs under load. Two LED displays provide information about whether the connection exists and about the activity of the data transfer.

Wanted a solution to add an NVMe drive to my Ubuntu machine without NVMe boot support on the motherboard. This solution was easy to setup and worked out the box, with my root partition on the NVMe drive and boot partition on the SATA disk. Would be nice if there were an included headsink for the SATA slot as well as the NVMe one but other than that seemed pretty ideal.
