Enthusiastic
by NigelIt is well built and sleek with a chunky base that is thankfully rotatable, and height adjustable. The base is a pronged stand that is slightly on the large side - if you are short of desk space, then that could be an issue. Otherwise, the base supports the monitor steadily and elegantly. The unit has three physical buttons and a "joystick" menu navigator. To understand how that works you need to download the user manual, which is doable. One of the buttons is on/off. Another button features to select between HDMI 1 & 2 and Display Port. Although, if you only have one device connected, the monitor finds which connection is there automatically. The Benq webpage for this product indicates that a remote control is included, therefore I was disappointed to find that no remote was delivered with my Order. Somehow, in game and in Windows 11, I have set the HDR. The monitor reminds you every time the HDR is turned on, in case you had doubts. Because I haven't fully learned the OSD, I haven't tried the Bright Intelligence Plus feature that is supposed to adjust colour temperature according to the room. Which is a shame, as I am quite looking forward to seeing that. The Out-of-the-box colours are quite pleasing, if slightly on the warm side. Quite by accident, I discovered that it is possible to use the freely available MSI Center App to set the colour temperature to neutral. Once the colours are set, then the display looks quite solid with text displaying well alongside graphics. At highest frequency, the monitor appears flicker free. I was able to test with one game ('Resident Evil 4 Remake') and found the presentation tear free. Surprisingly, the audio is also quite pleasing. The mid-bands are clear, and the bass and treble have detail too. I did notice a slight graininess to the Treble, but overall the audio image is quite balanced, if just a little held back when I was expecting more character. The stereo separation is just right, and the sound fades amicably. Thank you Benq.
