Excellent starter kit
by Alpha13SierraAs a hobbyist, I own several mechanical keyboards and decided to try out a gasket mounted model.I initially had my eyes on the Keychron Q1, but since it was out of stock everywhere, I went for the GMMK Pro instead.First of all, a big shout-out to the team at Overclockers. My order arrivedved within two days from posting it, nicely packaged and in perfect condition. Now, the GMMK Pro kit itself was pre-assembled, so I had to take it apart in order to mod the stabilisers and PCB.I was careful when I disassembled the keyboard and managed not to strip the screws, although some of them were a bit too tight.I then tried lubing the GOAT stabs with Krytox 205G0 and XHT-BDZ, but the wire was still noisy, so I ended up using the housing from TX stabs and the wires from Durock V2.For the PCB I used the included foam and one layer of painter's tape.It gives the keyboard a deeper tone, depending on the type of switches and keycaps of course.I'm using the Tangerines, lubed, PBT keycaps, and overall I'm satisfied with how it sounds. After putting the keyboard back together I installed Glorious Core, which is the software used to control and customise the keyboard. Not too impressed by it, it's really simplistic and doesn't offer too many options. The stock config for controlling the lighting, shortcuts etc is enough for me, but there is also the option of using QMK if further customisation is needed.Bare in mind that by using QMK, the rotary encoder will lose its volume controlling function. It can be re-added, but needs a bit of digging into coding/reprogramming.All in all, for the price of the board, I'm really satisfied with the end result and I would definitely recommend this as a good starter kit for people wanting to dive into this hobby.
