The IceGiant ProSiphon Elite is a powerful and unique CPU cooler that brings the ProSiphon technology is based on the thermosiphon effect, a technique normally reserved for commercial or High-Performance Computing, to the home. Compatible with most modern AMD and Intel chipsets, the IceGiant ProSiphon Elite can achieve cooling performance comparable to a custom-made water cooling system.

The IceGiant ProSiphon Elite CPU-Cooler at a glance:

  • Compatible with AMD and Intel chipsets
  • Unique 'gravity-driven' cooling loop
  • Four integrated 120mm PWM fans included
  • Vertical and horizontal mounting possible
  • Includes high-performance Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste

The IceGiant ProSiphon Elite CPU-Cooler in detail:

At first glance, the ProSiphon Elite appears to consist of a large heatsink and four 120mm PWM fans. However, this is no ordinary air cooler. It uses IceGiant's patented technology offers powerful cooling.

This is a technique that has not been previously used for consumer applications. Essentially, a liquid dielectric at the bottom of the cooler will quickly evaporate once the CPU starts heating up. The evaporated liquid transfers the excess heat to the outer edges of the condenser, where the fans expel the heat from the cooler. The cooled liquid then returns to the bottom of the condenser, ready to start the process all over.

ProSiphon Elite’s patented ProSiphon cooling process means the CPU cooler effectively dissipates heat, whilst its efficient design makes it extremely durable. So much so, you’ll be provided with a ten-year IceGiant warranty.

As well as the condenser, four dedicated PWM fans are attached to the unit. Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste is also included to ensure strong heat transfer between the cooler and CPU.

How ProSiphon Technology Works: A comparison with standard Heat Pipes

traditional process

Standard air CPU Coolers make use of hollow chambers line with a wick and a small amount of coolant. Once the CPU begins heating, the excess heat is transferred via a contact plate to the heat pipes and the liquid begins to evaporate.

As the vapour rises through the chamber, the excess heat moves from the cooler to numerous fins lining the edges of the cooler. Then cool air is blown on to the fins via fans, meaning the vapour cools back to its liquid form, which is absorbed by the wick.

traditional process boilng

The issue with this process is that if the liquid is heated to excess levels, it begins to boil inside the hollow sections of the heatpipes. This means the liquid cannot be absorbed by the wick and it dries out.

The end result is thermal throttling since there is no liquid to absorb the heat generated by the CPU. This is a particular problem with high performance CPUs, such as AMD's Ryzen Threadripper series, that have a TDP of 250 Watts or higher

prosiphon process

With the ProSiphon Elite, IceGiant implements an alternative approach. The ProSiphon Elite takes advantage of the coolant's tendency to evaporate with a loop system that directs the vapour to follow through the unit, passing by fins to dissipate the heat and ultimately pushing the re-condensed vapour back to the base of the unit via gravity.

Not only does this result in greater cooling than is typical of traditional air cooled CPU coolers but since there are fewer moving parts the ProSiphon Elite is extremely reliable. It is capable of operating continuously under heavy workloads.

In fact, IceGiant are so confident of the ProSiphon's longevity that they provide a 10-year warranty.

Superb cooling Recommend 100%

by Mike Bennett star star star star star

If you want a cooler that lives up to the hype, then this is it. I have this on my AMD7950x3D and it has no issues keeping it below 70deg even when under load, and with Ryzen PBO enabled. Had no issues fitting it to the MB. Only issue was mounting the additional fans in the box. You have to be a little careful so that you do not allow the mounting screws to go near the fins. With a 10yr warranty you can't go wrong. When you consider the average AIO or standard air cooling has less warranty (5yrs) and will need replacing around this timeframe. So for the cost ratio to other coolers, this will save you in the long term.

good but tricky fit

by Nigel star_border star star star star

fitted to 13700k the LGA1700 is good for the back plate and standoffs but the two black metal plates that fit the stand offs are poorly machined and would not fit properly used the ones for the LGA 1200 socked and it then fitted well keeping cpu much cooler than dh15 as Asrock z790 taichi asa a back plate the weight is not much of an issue unless you plan to move the case any distance then I would remove it first

Good if weighty

About 10 deg.C drop from AMD default cooler with 3900X.Install with mobo OUT of case.Arrives with 2 fans in Pull, I wanted Push so I could put the other 2 in the case roof, however you HAVE to Install heatsink on CPU FIRST as heatsink mounting screws are Under Push fans position, just means having to mount fans AFTER heatsink. No nuts for the fan mounting screws(due to the expectation of mounting on heatsink)
