This board was purchased as an upgrade for my son, His aging Core I7-3930k wasn't cutting it anymore for gaming and I had an Intel 12th Gen Core I7 spare, Having previously favoured MSI motherboards, I started to see what was out there, Found this to be at a great price point with all the features that he would need. Wi-Fi DDR5, ample M.2 slots and MSI's quality and reliability. Perfect.
After my sons PC died on its knees being an old Intel I7-3990k based setup I felt it was time to at least bring his setup a bit more up to date, having an Intel 12th Gen I7 sat aside it made sense to go for a mid range, feature rich and budget friendly motherboard. This is where the MSI MAG Z790 comes into play, its a feature rich board at a good price, as we know motherboards have been creeping up in price for a good few years now, however the MAG Z790 is at a good price point and ticks all the must haves and also some of the nice to haves features for me, With plenty of USB ports on the rear IO, along with the usual headers onboard coupled with Wi-Fi, meaning connectivity isn't an issue. The board is easy to work with, and well laid out. My 12 year old son was able to carry out the build while supervised without issue. Another great board from MSI :)
I decided after around 6 years to upgrade my computer, I was looking around everywhere to ensure that the parts I chose were compatible and the best they could be etc. This motherboard has not let me down, It was super easy to install, the BIOS is super nice and easy to use too and all the connectivity parts are super simple. I've paired it with an I7 13700, 4070ti RTX, got some new DDR5 RAM and finally the H100i cooler. I've had no issues whatsoever. The MSI Center makes it super easy to view the components and their temperatures too. Overall it was a solid choice! It's super clean-looking too! 10/10 would recommend!
